I'd say it's the expectation that he joins the NHL team and burns a year. It's the norm for a college signing.

The great Jason Kasdorf signed after his senior year, joined the Sabres and played a game. Countless examples of position players.

Thx. I was a little too young to see Super Mario in his prime (I was born in '90 and he retired for the first time when I was 7). I don't see the Lindros comp, personally. Lindros was a bull in the china shop. Tage is a precision howitzer with ridiculous finesse.
